Grade level: 4th
Subject: Geography
Length of lesson: Around 90 minutes
Lesson Topic: Travel with Me Slideshow
Overall Goal:
The students will understand how to create a slideshow that will present the information wanted from them for the Travel with Me Project Itinerary
Learner Background:
- Students will need to be able to use the Google search engine.
- The students will need to take notes on a Google Doc. (which they will have learned this prior to this lesson plan)
- Students will be researching while creating a Slideshow for this project.
This lesson is being taught because it will allow students to use their online reading comprehension skills to recreate content into a Google Slideshow that shares information about their country. Students will need to include the information they feel is most valuable to their audience (their classmates).

Student Learning Objective(s):
Students will be able to comprehend online content and create a slideshow with the information they believe is most important without using plagiarism.
Assessment:
Part I: (Formative)
I will ask the class if they have any questions and ask someone to repeat the objective and what I would like students to do. This should be fairly easy because students will have had many days prior to the lesson to complete research on their country.
Part II: (Summative)
I will know if students have mastered the student learning objectives when they submit their presentation to me. They will first submit them to me and then I will go back and see if there is anything they could add or revise. After that, they will then submit the final copy to me and the next day will have an informal presentation to the class.
Materials/Resources:
- Tablets/Computers
- Google Docs, Slides, etc.
- Pen
- Pape
The Lesson
Part I – (This is intended to motivate students.)
I will start by having every student open up their google doc with their running information on their country, which I will have checked at this point. After I will ask them if any of them have used Google Slides. Then I will have them explore for about 10 minutes making a slide that will describe them. I think this will be a good way for the students to use their reading and writing skills.
Part II
I will then explain why we are making a slideshow and that this is not the only time you will be using Google slides/or creating a slideshow. The students will know that I want it to be colorful and creative, this is their time to show their personality.
The Lesson:
- After doing a short intro to what we will be doing, I will then ask them to share their Google Slideshow with me so I have access and can monitor them.
- I will call each child up individually and ask them if they need help with anything.
- I want the students to create their own work so I will not tell them how I expect it to look, only that it must be colorful.
- I will let the students work for about an hour. (I am not expecting everyone to complete the slideshow in an hour). So I would plan for another day to be focussed on this as well.
- During this period of silent work, I will be going around helping the students in any way that I can, also answering any questions regarding the Travel with Me project.
- I will then gather students’ attention, so we can have a closing discussion/reflection.

Closure:
I will start by asking the students what they have just learned. I will then give them a half sheet of paper to reflect on the process of making a short slideshow regarding their country they will be traveling to. I will also have them ask one question they still have regarding slideshows, and what they enjoyed. So then when continuing on working on these slideshows I am able to address the concerns the students have.
